Why We're Building Our New Home with Wood
Puralpina is growing. Step by step, year by year – together with you.
To ensure we continue to have space for new ideas, our production, and our shop, we are expanding our manufactory in Frutigen.
However, for us, building is about more than just additional
space. Our new building is intended to reflect what we stand for: naturalness, quality, and responsibility towards our environment. That's why we deliberately chose to build with wood.
But why wood?
Sustainability that makes sense
Wood is a true all-rounder – and above all, a sustainable building material.
Compared to concrete or steel, its production requires significantly less energy. This reduces the so-called embodied energy and conserves resources.
Wood stores CO₂. Approximately one tonne of CO₂ is permanently sequestered per cubic meter. At the same time, using wood instead of other building materials can save an average of about 700 kg of CO₂.
Our building is therefore not just built – it actively contributes to the climate.
Efficiently built, cleverly planned
Modern timber construction has little in common with what one might have imagined it to be in the past.
Today, timber construction means precise prefabrication in the workshop and short construction times on site. The supporting structure is quickly erected and protected, so that the interior finishing can start immediately – without long waiting times.
Planning is somewhat more complex than with a classic solid construction. But it is precisely this extra effort that pays off: through efficient processes, quick implementation, and ultimately, higher quality at lower overall costs.
A Material with Natural Strengths
Wood can do more than just look good. It regulates humidity
by absorbing and releasing moisture. This ensures a pleasant indoor climate.
And when it comes to warmth, wood simply feels better.
While stone or metal quickly draw heat away from our bodies, wood remains
pleasantly "warm" – even at the same temperature.
Furthermore, wood is durable. If used correctly, it lasts for
generations. And should something eventually need to be changed, wood can be
easily renovated or reused.
Thinking regionally, implementing collaboratively
We're not undertaking a project like this alone. It was important for us to work with a partner who shares our values and knows the region. That's why we're realizing the timber construction together with the regional timber construction company Künzi + Knutti.
Currently, the timber elements for our new building are being prepared in the workshops. Sawing, screwing, and sanding are underway so that we can soon move into our enlarged home. Around
70 tons of wood are being prepared for us in Adelboden.
Our new building is more than just a construction project. It's a clear statement for sustainability, quality, and regional cooperation. And it shows: growth and responsibility can go very well together.
We look forward to taking this next step together with
you.
