How we (unexpectedly) came to deodorant

When you think of puralpina, images of fragrant marmot herbal ointment immediately come to mind. Perhaps also our Edelweiss hand or foot balm – tried-and-true classics, deeply rooted in Alpine naturopathy. But deodorant?

At first it sounds like a step to the side.
But in truth, it was a step forward.

The beginning

A very personal problem

The idea for our deodorant didn't come from a boardroom or a market trend check. Like so many good ideas, it came directly from real life.

At puralpina, it all began with a very personal experience: My wife had been struggling with underarm odor for a long time. No deodorant really helped. Aluminum, alcohol, perfumes – nothing had the desired effect.
It was only a deodorant cream, which she tried more or less by chance, that finally showed results. And suddenly, the thought occurred to her: Why don't we make our own deodorant?

Skepticism in the team and the first attempts

I brought my idea to the team. Initially, enthusiasm was rather muted:

“A deodorant? We’re known for ointments!”
“A deodorant cream – does that even suit us, Silvan?”

But that was precisely the appeal: daring to do something new without compromising ourselves.

So we started developing it. Our goal: 100% natural. No compromises. No preservatives, no synthetic fragrances, no additives.

Instead, we use local raw materials, proven plant power, and puralpina craftsmanship.

The first prototypes? Promising – but not yet perfect. The effect was good, but the consistency was... in need of improvement. Weeks of tinkering, stirring, testing, and adjusting followed. Until it was there: a cream that applied smoothly, smelled pleasant, and provided reliable protection.

The moment of truth: market launch

What happened surprised even us.

And then came the big moment: the sales launch.

"What, you're making deodorant now?" – we heard this question often. But just as often, the follow-up was: "Wow. That's really good."

The feedback from our customers and retailers was overwhelming:
"Finally, a natural deodorant that works, smells good, is pleasant to apply, and contains no ingredients you don't want in a deodorant.

This also led us to the current statement about our deodorants: Of course it works.

When we developed our deodorants, one thing was clear to us:
They should be 100% natural and work reliably.

Today we know: both are possible. Without compromise.
That's why we say with conviction: Of course it works.

A play on words that sums up our idea in one statement.

The next step

The deodorant as a stick

The cream's success motivated us to think further. Many people wanted a classic takeaway form—simple, practical, and hygienic.

Since autumn 2024, our deodorant has also been available as a stick.

Naturally packaged in a cardboard box, ecologically sound, just as effective – and with packaging that is not only sustainable but also beautiful: a real eye-catcher.

Our conclusion: More than just a product

For us, developing the deodorant was more than just a new product. It was a bold step – stepping out of our comfort zone and into a new category. But not just any category.

But with heart, mind and our DNA as natural cosmetics pioneers.
